#30 – “FIRST THE GOOD NEWS” from Bill Ziese

*************************************************************************************
My wife suggested that I put some positive news up for a change. It’s hard to take up space and time with so many “not so good” things going on all around us. I feel that “time is of the essence” to get the word out, so here’s the GOOD NEWS – I will continue to alert our clients with up to date information.

The U.S. is Getting Dumped On

We are all aware that the U.S is being flooded with “goods” (perhaps they should be called “bads”) from other countries. Garlic from China , Mexico and Argentina has been a pet peeve of mine for a while. They use pesticides that have been banned in the US for years; China uses human “waste” for fertilizer. My favorite is “Organic” garlic from China being offered in Price Chopper (a regional grocery chain) – an oxymoron if there ever was one.

In 2005 alone, China sent us enough plywood to build cabinets for 2,000,000 kitchens. This plywood was recently tested at a Home Depot in Portland , Oregon . It gave off 100 times more formaldehyde than is legal in Japan and 30 times the legal amount allowed in Europe and China itself.

Palm’s Treo 650 smartphone, Apple’s iSight camera and other electronics were pulled off the shelves in Europe earlier this year because of lead components. They remain available in the U.S.

Thank Rumsfeld and the FDA for this One

Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal, etc.) is an addictive neurotoxin that has the FDA’s blessing. Aspartame has 3 components: Aspartic Acid – continuously stimulates neurons in the brain; a methyl group that converts to methanol (wood alcohol) and formaldehyde and formic acid (the sting in ants); phenylalanine - a neurotoxin that lowers the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, creating behavior problems and sometimes psychosis.

25 years ago the FDA knew aspartame was responsible for leukemia, lymphoma, kidney cancer and cancer of the peripheral nerves. The FDA rejected its approval for 16 years, but suddenly, in 1981, it was approved. Searle held the patent on Aspartame and Donald Rumsfeld was CEO at the time. Ronald Reagan’s transition team, which included “Donny”, managed to get the FDA director replaced with a more “friendly” successor.

Aspartame reacts with drugs and vaccines. The 007 status (right to kill) legislation was passed to excuse drug makers from responsibility if things don’t go right.

For more information “Sweet Misery; A Poisoned World” is available on DVD at Amazon.com and others.

GILDA’S CORNER – Sweet Lowdown

'Tis the season for sweets, but avoid giving these treats to your dog -- especially chocolate, which can be deadly.

Chocolate smells tasty and edible to most dogs, but poses a major poisoning risk because it contains theobromine, a substance that is toxic to dogs. It can cause hyperactivity, increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, and even death. If you think your dog has eaten chocolate, call your vet or an animal poison control center immediately.

RUMANIAN ROAST GARLIC CHICKEN
(Pui cu Usturoi or Fokhagymas Csirke)

1 large Chicken (about 4 pounds) cut into serving pieces
1 tbsp rendered Lard or 2 tbsp of Olive Oil
6 peeled and finely chopped large Garlic cloves (Transylvanian Garlic is preferred)
1 tbsp Flour
2 tbsp Sour Cream
Salt to taste

Roast the Chicken pieces in a moderate oven, in a roasting pan with Lard (or Olive Oil), until tender inside. When done, remove the Chicken from the pan and keep warm. Drain the drippings into a saucepan.

Sauté Garlic in the Chicken drippings until golden, but do not let the Garlic brown. Mix Flour with some water until smooth and pour over the Garlic. Season with Salt, then add the Chicken.

Simmer chicken a few minutes, then sprinkle with Sour Cream. Simmer a little more and serve.
